About Me

About the Editor

I am Editor S, a long-term resident of Kobe with over 20 years of life in this coastal city. My relationship with Kobe is more than just residency; it is a profound, lifelong fascination with its unique character.

What this site is about

DiscoverKobe is built on a simple belief: Kobe deserves better coverage. While Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto dominate every travel guide, Kobe’s unique blend of mountain hiking, harbour culture, international history, cutting-edge redevelopment, and world-class food remains consistently underrepresented.

My focus is on depth over breadth. Each article is written from the perspective of someone who takes the trains daily, walks the districts on weekends, and follows the city’s development with genuine personal investment.

Areas of coverage

  • Urban redevelopment and infrastructure (especially the Sannomiya transformation)
  • Railway network deep-dives (all 10 lines, station by station)
  • Neighbourhood guides across all 9 wards
  • Food, culture, and the rhythms of daily Kobe life

If you have questions, corrections, or local knowledge to share, I welcome it. This city is best understood together.

— Editor S

Finally, my mission is to deliver the “True Kobe”—moving beyond the surface-level tourist guides to provide a sophisticated, local perspective on the city’s evolving landscape, culture, and soul.
